Nigel
Warrington
NIGEL WARRINGTON is
a theatre and opera director, a teacher of acting to
actors and singers, a translator and writer. He read
English Language and Literature at the University of
Oxford and studied directing at the Bristol Old Vic
Theatre School. He has worked in England, Scotland,
Ireland, USA, Denmark, Holland, Germany and New
Zealand. For four years he was head of the
professional actor-training programme at Trinity
College, Dublin. He has been a guest artist at the
prestigious North Carolina School of the Arts and a
visiting professor at Indiana University, where he
taught acting, directing, movement and voice/speech.
In addition to his continued teaching, since 1996
his directing work has focused on opera and music
theatre. His productions include Mozart’s COSI FAN
TUTTE (for which he won “Best Opera Production of
the Year Award 2001” in Denmark) and a highly
innovative LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR in New Zealand. From
2001 to 2004 he was Artistic Director of the North
Jutland Opera Company, a middle-scale touring
company producing touring opera for both adults and
children. In 2006 his talent met a new challenge,
when he was invited by the North Jutland Art Museum
to create MOZART FOREVER – a “dramatic
exhibition” to celebrate the Mozart 250th
anniversary. It was an enormous success. In February
Nigel moved with his partner Lau and his border
terrier Hector to Datça, Turkey. Directing and
teaching will hopefully continue, but writing is now
a big priority. Nigel hopes that the move to Datça
is the start of a new chapter in his creative and
personal life. |
